The free event on September 19th at 7pm will feature a presentation by his son, Tom Peak, whose new comprehensive coffee table book, “The Art of Bob Peak,” covers the legendary 40-year career which earned Bob Peak the title “Father of the Modern Hollywood Movie Poster.”
The event will also feature an exhibit of artwork and a PowerPoint retrospective of an extraordinary 40-year career during which Bob Peak set the standard and rewrote the rules of illustration artistry time after time.
During his remarkable 40-year run, Bob Peak created the instantly recognizable posters for “West Side Story,” “My Fair Lady,” “Camelot,” “Apocalypse Now,” and the first five “Star Trek” films. He was also one of the most prolific illustrators of the 20th Century, painting and drawing artwork for hundreds of eye-catching magazine advertisements, fashion spreads, “Sports Illustrated” articles, and “TV Guide” profiles. Bob Peak is also responsible for 45 “Time” magazine covers. Bob Peak was commissioned by the U.S. Postal Service for 30 stamps for the 1984 Summer Olympics in LA and the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo. He was also awarded four Gold Medals by the Society of Illustrators and in 1977 was inducted into their Hall of Fame. In 2011 the Academy of the Motion Picture Academy presented a Bob Peak Exhibit at its headquarters. |
